Obtaining private insurance, Medicaid or SSI and finding information about supports or services needed by our kids are the two most pressing problems encountered by Nevada families. Managed care programs in Nevada are losing medical providers because of slow reimbursements so, despite "speeded up" approvals, families cannot find providers close-by. In fact, many rural families are assigned providers in Las Vegas, when they live clear across the state. A complex maze of services and supports too often results in services delays, or worse, finding out about them when it is too late to take advantage of them. Waiver programs are not well publicized and are not Beckett waiver, but many do not know it exists. The Nevada Check Up (SCHIP) affects families and CSHCN in similar ways. Coordinators assisted Nevada's MCH with their Needs Assessment by helping to develop a consumer survey, providing mailing lists of families who have children with special health care needs, helping to distribute surveys and coordinating a focus group of families.
