Family Voices State Contact: Nancy DiVenere Phone: (802) 655-5290 E-mail: Nancy.Divenere@partopartvt.org Family Voices, working with parent groups, health advocates and major providers helped Kaiser Permanente and Medicaid agree to increase the amount per patient visit for physicians when they serve children with special health care needs! With over 2,000 Family Voices members in the Green Mountain state, a web site and a regular column in the Parent-to-Parent newsletter, lots of information and assistance is provided to parents around the state. Partnerships are strong, with paid families working with Title V/CSHCN, the Medicaid agency, and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. The most pressing problem identified in Vermont is the lack of coordination within the system, forcing families to be the "middle man" when providers have caseloads too large to provide effective coordination. This causes stress and inefficiency, especially when families have difficulty finding the correct information about supports or services for which their children qualify. A second pressing problem is a lack of personal care and respite providers and inadequate funding for existing respite programs.
