Cruise lines have had a long standing problem with sexual assaults by crew members against passangers and other crew members. Sexual assualts produce post traumatic stress dissorder, especially in young teenage victims. Cruise lines are vicariously liable for the actions of their employees. The industry's defense of these aligations is vigorous and ethically marginal. The victim's problems are often used by the cruise line as a weapon against them. In addition, most perpatrators are foreign emplyoees and the industry's practice is to immediately put them on an airplane back to their home country and out of reach from U.S. criminal prosecution.
