WARNING: Pain Pumps Liked to Shoulder Joint Cartilage Deterioration I-Flow - On-Q Painbuster Shoulder Pain Pump
The ON-Q PainBuster Post-Op Pain Relief System is a pain pump which provides continuous infusion of a local anesthetic directly into the patient’s surgical site for non-narcotic post-operative pain relief. Recent studies, however, have shown that the use of pain pumps which deliver medication directly to the shoulder after surgery may cause damage to cartilage in the shoulder. It is alleged that these pain pumps such as those manufactured by I-Flow including, the On-Q Painbuster Shoulder Pain Pump may permanently deteriorate and eventually destroy cartilage in the shoulder area. Symptoms include shoulder weakness, pain and a decreased range of rotation. Other symptoms include clicking, popping or grinding of the shoulder.
