Paralysis
Paralysis is the result of a disconnection between the brain or spinal cord and the body. Sometimes this separation is caused by disease, but other times it is due to an outside force, such as an accident involving a hard knock to the body. If you are involved in an accident resulting in paralysis and that accident was the result of someone else’s negligence, you may be eligible for monetary compensation.
Paralysis Facts:
- It is estimated that the annual incidence of spinal cord injury (SCI), not including those who die at the scene of the accident, is approximately 40 cases per million population in the U. S. or approximately 11,000 new cases each year.
- The number of people in the United States who are alive in December 2003 who have SCI has been estimated to be approximately 243,000 persons.
- Since 1990, motor vehicle crashes account for 40.9% of the SCI cases reported. The next largest contributor is falls followed by acts of violence (primarily gunshot wounds), and recreational sporting activities.
